Beale & Company expands its international construction team with the hire of two new partners

Tuesday, 15th April 2014

Beale & Company are delighted to announce the appointments of Anthony Wilson and Ben Mellors who join the firm’s international construction team as partners.

Anthony, who joins from Wragge & Co LLP, where he was head of international construction disputes, has significant experience of handling complex and high-value construction claims, notably in the power, infrastructure and oil and gas sectors. Anthony has handled dispute resolution proceedings taking place in the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Prior to Wragge’s, Anthony was a partner and head of construction disputes in the Cairo office of a leading Middle East based arbitration practice.

Ben joins us from the international construction practice at Berwin Leighton Paisner. He advises clients on a wide variety of construction projects internationally but has particular experience in international infrastructure, power and oil and gas projects and the FIDIC forms of contract. Ben co-wrote the leading “FIDIC Contracts: Law and Practice” published by Informa in 2009. Before the law Ben practised as a civil engineer at a leading international consulting engineering company with offices in the UK and the Middle East.

Their appointment continues the growth of Beale’s international construction team which over the last fews years has included the appointments of partners Simon Delves, Will Buckby and Tom Pemberton.

The development of Beale’s international construction practice represents a natural progression and builds on its already leading reputation in the construction, engineering and infrastructure sectors. The firm has been involved in the procurement of some exciting international projects, particularly in the Middle East and Africa, and is currently acting on a number of international arbitrations where the total aggregate amount in dispute is in excess of half a billion dollars. Their international success was recently recognised with the firm being Highly Commended for the ‘Outstanding International Business (SME) 2014’ award at the British Expertise International Awards. Now with established links in Europe through the network Lexicom, Africa through ALN and many others throughout the world, the next step for Beales is a presence in the Middle East where many of the firm’s clients have focussed their international development strategies.

Antony Smith, Senior Partner at Beale & Company, commented:

“We are delighted to welcome Anthony and Ben to the firm. Both are extremely talented and experienced figures in the international construction scene and we are delighted to welcome individuals of their reputation to the business. Their appointments and the work they do will complement and enhance our existing international offering and further enable us to offer an enviable level of knowledge and experience which will benefit many of our clients. An invaluable addition to the firm and we are very much looking forward to working with them.”
