  • Legal Executive

    The successful candidate will have responsibility for supporting specific tasks on client files.

    Candidates must have previous demonstrable and relevant experience in a Legal Executive role within a litigation department.

    The main responsibilities of the role include the following:

    • Providing support to fee earners on client files relating to professional indemnity, employers’ liability and personal injury cases.
    • Attending court to assist fee earners with the presentation of cases.
    • Being responsible for the preparation and checking of all court booklets. •Preparing briefs for counsel.
    • Pre-motion preparation.
    • Assisting with preparation for and attendance at trials.
    • Reviewing and scheduling of client documents in relation to the preparation of affidavits of discovery on large scale professional indemnity matters.
    • Preparation and updating of bordereaux.
    • Document management and record keeping in relation to large scale class action type claims, in particular in relation to construction.

    • Acting and advising in respect of claims against construction professionals such as Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Design & Build Contractors.
    • Preparing correspondence pursuant to the Pre-Action Protocol for Construction and Engineering Disputes.
    • Litigation in the Courts of England & Wales and/or domestic or international Arbitration.
    • ADR, including negotiation and mediation.
    • Adjudication experience.
    • Working knowledge of the principal standard for construction contracts.
    • Instructing liability and quantum experts and Counsel.
    • Good business development skills, including managing client relationships and delivering presentations.

    This is a new role created to support the future proofing of the Firm’s Compliance Department.  The Senior Compliance Officer will report to the Head of Risk and Compliance.

    Key Requirements of the role:

    Compliance advice and guidance – Support the Head of Risk and Compliance in the delivery of key Compliance processes. Lead the delivery of Compliance processes. Resolve issues as they arise, and identify areas for improvement in support of improved Compliance and Risk Management in the Firm. Key processes include Conflicts, Sanctions and AML.

    Relationship Management – Ability to build relationships virtually (will be responsible for providing Compliance assistance to multiple offices) as well as in person, and at all levels, so as to maximise effectiveness and ensure the reputation of the Compliance Department.

    Work Planning – Lead work planning to ensure that Compliance and Risk Management projects are scheduled and delivered according to plan.

    Compliance Policies – Ensure an up-to-date suite of Compliance policies is maintained for each of our jurisdictions.  Lead the oversight of the review and update of all Firm policies.

    Compliance reviews – Assist the Head of Risk and Compliance with reviews of processes across the Firm.

    Solution development – Assist the Head of Risk and Compliance with developing solutions to Compliance and risk issues as they arise.

    Strategic Projects – Support the Head of Risk and Compliance with strategic projects as appropriate.

    Person Specification:

    Qualifications:

    Compliance or risk qualification is desirable but not essential.

    Knowledge of Regulatory requirements in E&W is essential, and of regulatory requirements in Ireland and Dubai is desirable but not essential.

    Experience:

    A successful track record in a general compliance role with an E&W law firm is essential.

    A continuing interest in developing Compliance, Risk Management, and regulatory knowledge is essential.

    Commercially aware – demonstrable experience of providing pragmatic, sensible solutions in a timely manner.

    Involvement in decision making, providing clear, balanced support, advice and guidance on a range of compliance issues.

    Experience in developing effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.

    Experience of management and development of less experienced colleagues.

    Skills:

    Professional, persuasive and influential with a can-do attitude.

    Well organised with the ability to prioritise effectively.

    Ability to gain the confidence of stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills.

    Ability to challenge and hold senior members of staff to account.

    Collaborative but can lead by example and is a team player.

We’re looking for experience of advising on procurement routes, engineering and construction documentation (including consultants’ appointments, building contracts, collateral warranties, third party rights and security documentation), joint venture agreements, PFI and PPP documentation, alliance agreements etc.

    The role would suit those with in house and/or private experience. Experience of advising on projects internationally, including in the Middle East and Africa is preferred but is not essential. The ability to delegate, supervise more junior members of the team and be able to demonstrate involvement in business development activities are all important qualities in the successful candidate.
