Sam is a specialist insurance and reinsurance disputes lawyer, acting for insurers, reinsurers and corporate insureds in coverage and defence matters across the UK and internationally.
She has significant experience defending high-value and complex claims, particularly in the professional indemnity, financial institutions and D&O, commercial property, political violence, cyber and AI sectors. She advises clients on coverage, policy interpretation, dispute strategy and resolution, often in a multi-jurisdictional context.
Sam also provides non-contentious insurance and reinsurance advice, including policy wording reviews, sanctions compliance, FCA regulatory issues and broader risk-transfer arrangements.
Notable cases:
• Defending a firm of solicitors in a £57m fraud and conspiracy claim involving allegations against directors of a company that company profits had been artificially inflated to increase the sale price by channelling money through the solicitors’ client account.
• Advising on a professional negligence claim against a firm of solicitors involving a transaction in Dubai where a post-date cheque had been used as security in a multi-million pound property development.
• Advising on a claim under a political violence policy where the insured was pursuing a substantial claim against the cedant, however the cedant’s 100% facultative reinsurer argued there were grounds for avoidance and would not agree to an indemnity under the reinsurance policy.
• Advising a reinsurer on the drawdown of Funds At Lloyd’s in breach of an Excess of Loss reinsurance agreement.
