Ukraine Recovery Conference 21-22 June 2023

Rishi Sunak and Volodymyr Zelenskyy have today opened the Ukraine Recovery Conference. The goal of the Conference is to focus on mobilising international support for Ukraine’s economic and social stabilisation and recovery from the effects of war, including through emergency assistance for immediate needs and financing private sector participation in the reconstruction process.

Construction and infrastructure was at the forefront of the first day, with topics covering the scale of the recovery challenge, building back better in the energy sector, investment opportunities and de-risking mechanisms to mobilise private finance. Tomorrow’s sessions will include a look at the challenges of Ukraine’s reconstruction including master planning, sustainability, economic regeneration and development.

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine today announced further details of the Ukraine Development Fund (UDF). The UDF will be a National Development Finance Initiative and will target five key sectors with a potential addressable market of $50bn, suitable for private capital investment. It is expected to include infrastructure >$20bn, energy >$10bn, manufacturing >$9bn, agriculture >$7bn and IT >$1bn.

The UK Government is compiling a list of priority projects, where UK businesses can support Ukraine to rebuild. This will enable UK industry to develop long term relationships and pipelines of work with Ukrainian counterparts.
