Building Fire Safety – HPL cladding potentially no safer than ACM

In recent years, the safety of cladding on high-rise buildings has received much attention. In particular, aluminium composite (‘ACM’) cladding has been the subject of significant press attention and government regulation.

However, recent fire safety tests on High Pressure Laminate (“HPL’) cladding suggest that this is likely to receive similar levels of scrutiny as the now infamous ACM cladding.

In this article, we consider the nature of HPL cladding, previous government advice as regards its use and the outcome and consequences of recent fire safety tests.
